Chapter Eleven

Margot lingered in bed the next morning, tangled in the sheets and listening to the sounds of Colleen moving around downstairs. It had been easy to get swept up in the moment, but now there were very practical things to consider. Would anything change? Had everything changed? Would she go downstairs and have breakfast with Colleen like it was any other day? Would they kiss good morning or act like the relationship was the same it had been yesterday?

She finally extracted her legs from the blanket and sat up. She saw the dildo and harness on the floor and looked around for her phone. She snapped a picture and sent it to Linnie with the caption: “Very funny, asshole. Works great, btw.” She silenced the phone and put it in her pocket, then retrieved the toy and took it into the bathroom. She would clean it later when she showered. She dressed, jeans and a button-down shirt, and braced herself before she finally went to face the music.

Colleen was in the kitchen working on breakfast. She was in a tight T-shirt over baggy, ripped jeans. Her hair was a mess, and her feet were bare.

“Taking the day off?”

Colleen smiled without looking up from the pan. “No. But I’m allowing myself a late start. I hope you’re not upset that I left. You wouldn’t have been able to sleep very well with me just sitting up...”

“No, I get it. It’s fine.” She was at one end of the counter, as far from Colleen as she could be without leaving the room. “Are we going to talk about--”

Colleen finally looked up. “Is there anything else to talk about? Sorry, I don’t mean to be rude. I just thought it was fairly self-explanatory.”

“Was it?”

“For me. But if we need to lay it all out... Last night was a lot of fun. I liked being touched by you, whether it was the massage or the shower, or anything in between. You’re great in bed. I really hope we can do it again. And I’d like to do it a lot, actually.” She raised her eyebrows. “Was that... a-are we on the same page?”

Margot said, “Yeah. Yes, absolutely, the same goes for you. You were...” She exhaled a laugh and shook her head. “You were amazing. I was just thinking more about...” She moved a hand between them. “This. Us. Normal times, when we’re clothed and interacting without the nakedness and the touching. How are we going to go about that?”

“Oh. Oh, I see.” She chewed her bottom lip. “I don’t know. Does it have to change?”

“No! Nope,” Margot shook her head. “I don’t think it does.”

Colleen said, “I’m fine with change if that’s something you need. I don’t want you to think I’m just using you for sex.”

Margot laughed. “I don’t think I’d be necessarily opposed to that, in all honesty. But really, what we’re doing here isn’t conducive to a long-term romantic entanglement. We’re not going to go on dates or anything. We’ll just be professional, like we’ve always been.
